Lenggong Valley

I have been in Lenggong since December 2017. My grandma house is in Lenggong.
And my grandma house has no internet that's why I haven't write for a long time now. I have to go to the Internet center for internet. And today I will be writing about my hometown " The Lenggong Valley.

LENGGONG VALLEY

The Lenggong valley in Hulu Perak is one of Peninsular Malaysia's most important areas for archeology, as excavations have revealed many traces of Malaysia's prehistory. It is the site of the oldest known place of human activity in the Peninsula. Today it is still a rural area, with small kampongs surrounded by green vegetation and limestone hills. Lenggong can be likened to an open-air museum, and is home to legends, skeletons, cave drawings and precious finds such as jewellery, pottery, weapons and stone tools. Many of the caves in the Lenggong area have revealed evidence of ancient humans having lived and hunted in this area. The Lenggong Valley was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site on 30 June 2012.

The Interesting things I did in Lenggong

I love staying in Lenggong!! My grandma house was a structured residential house. The residential was surrounded by a jungle. That make our house surrounded by lots of monkeys and birds. There are also a lot for cats, Sometimes I put some food near the trees and All of the animals (cats and monkeys!) are already waiting for the food.

My grandma also have a Durian orchard which i go to when it is durian season. The Durian orchard always full of Durian scraps which i think is the job of wild boars and monkeys. My grandma say sometimes there used to be a tiger but we never see one. She said she has seen tigers there but my grandma told a lot of stories and none of us knew if all of them are actually true.

Going to the Durian orchard is a lot of fun! We collected a lot of Durians! Even though, I eat a LOT of Durians, the durians we're collected are too much for us to eat! So we used some of them to make many different things like Ice Cream, Durian Crepe, Pulut Durian, Pengat Durian, Tempoyak and many more things.
I will share the recipes in another post!

If it's still isn't obvious yet, Durian is my most favourite fruit.

Perak Man

Perak Man is the oldest human skeleton found in Malaysia at Gua Gunung Runtuh in the state of Perak in Peninsular Malaysia
The cave was his final resting place situated in Bukit Kepala Gajah or Elephant's Head Hill in the Lenggong Valley of Ulu Perak.
In 2004, another skeleton was found at Gua Teluk Kelawar in Lenggong. This time it is a 'Perak woman'
of 148 cm in height and was believed to aged 40s.

He was buried in the fetal position, with deposits of animal bones at his right shoulder, to his left and to his bottom, and deposits of stone tools around the body. There were no other burials in the cave. The Perak Man had a malformed left hand, his left arm and hand were much smaller compared to his right arm and hand. This deformity could be from a genetic disorder known as brachymesophalangia. This evidence is further supported by the fact that his spine is curved towards the right due to living with only one good hand.

Pekasam

Lenggong is famous for its freshwater fish dishes. One local delicacy from freshwater fish is pekasam, where the fish is marinated in salt and toasted rice, followed by fermentation for between two weeks to a year!!!!!!!!

I love eating my grandfather's homemade pekasam recipe. We always use "Ikan loma". Loma is a type of fish that can only be found at Perak River. We usually keep the pekasam fermented for about 1 to 3 month. We make the pekasam in a "tempayan" or crock which is maybe about a hundred years now. The crock belong to my great great grandmother.
